Saturday, Mar. 11, 2006 / 11:30 p.m. ~Just Thinking~ We rode in his convertible, with the top down, nothing on the sides of the road but trees, and animals I knew were just waiting to run in front of us. It was a two lane highway, and it felt like we were nowhere I had ever been, listening to music that didn't even fit, Aretha Franklin and James Brown, and on the way back we sang along, loud, with the top up and closed in, reading between the lines, quieter as we realized we were having too much fun. Too much fun moved to the futon sofa opened for him to sleep, an eventual retreat to my bed, waiting for him to join, him lying awake, wanting me back. I can still feel the slight chill in the air on that drive, picture the road illuminated only by our headlights, singing, laughing, then growing quiet. Cost of the War in Iraq
