~Sarcasm 101~

Listerine is reading Corinthians with a magnifying glass. I walked by and saw it, "Corinthians", at the top of the page, and her, leaning in close. She doesn't wear the glasses prescribed to her, and I have no idea why. Vanity? The same reason she insists on bad 'relax/perm' jobs instead of letting her hair curl naturally (and I've seen it, it looks really good natural). She's resorted to wigs to cover the mess. The current one has blond highlights, bangs, it's short, like Catherine ZetaHavingMichaelDouglas'babies' hair in that Best Picture of the Year movie.

Kathy has given me the paper to read, the headline being 'Game Is Over', and the photo of the American soldier putting an American flag over the face of the Saddam statue, pre-Iraqi flag (that shot was much nicer, more politically correct, on account of it is THEIR country, you know?), pre-statue toppling. Was that not the most well-orchestrated photo opportunity you have ever seen? I watched it a couple of times, on different channels, before I could stand it no longer.

I recall similar joyous celebrating in Afghanistan, post-Taliban, but what's it like now? (oh dear, I just read in the paper that the US bombed a house in Afghanistan yesterday, killing 11 civilians, most of them women - so, we're still bombing them, good to know!). Back then it was images of joyous televison viewing by little Afghan children, joy, joy, they can watch TV again, like the Taliban wouldn't let them before. Everyone should be allowed to watch TV, it's our god-given right. Women let down their burkas, timidly showed their noses and mouths. How's it goin' now, eh? Do you care? Does the US? Taliban reforming, you say? Well, we're moving on, there's a lot of terrorism out there, and we've got to take care of it, we can't stop to fix up all the countries we invade. Heavens, we're busy!

"60 Minutes II" was decent last night, aside from showing several minutes, if not more, of the exact same footage, commentary included, that they'd shown on the Evening News only an hour or two prior. One of their men in the field (and isn't that Lara Logan hot?!) interviewed angry men in Basra (you'll never see women interviewed on the street, notice that? - must not be allowed in these societies, but I'd like to see just one woman grab one of these reporters and speak her mind, er, that is if she won't immediately be shot for it). One man looked in the camera and asked George Bush his ownself to give them some fucking water and electricity, if you please.

Yeah, Basra now has no water, no electricity, no police, a whole lot of nothing, but statues have toppled, so that sort of makes up for it. The most important thing is the symbolism after all, right?

And could we please get an accurate number on the US 'casualties'? I really think they're not giving us the real numbers. But, they showed the kids in the hospitals, actually the same footage of the same kids they've been showing for a couple weeks now yeah, I noticed. They show the same three kids over and over. But, in case you were wondering at the authenticity of the photo I linked to yesterday (go back to the entry entitled 'A War Story'), the article about the kid whose arms were blown off they showed him, in hospital, but from a curious distance, like maybe 15 feet away. Hmmmm what is that? A child? Are his arms gone? And what's that thing over his stomach mmmm hard to see from so far away, wait, it's gone. Oh well.

Here's another photo on the same front page of my city's newspaper, an Iraqi man holding a pre-printed sign, small, computer lettering, 'Bye Bye Saddam', I wonder if he made it on his home computer or did maybe someone GIVE it to him to hold up? Oh, dear, am I a bit cynical about yesterday's big PHOTO OP? It just looked too contrived, that's all. Oh sure, I'm happy for the folks, even the ones without WATER, on account of maybe we'll give them some Coca Cola or something, water is overrated anyway. And who needs electricity? And bridges? And medical aid? The statues are toppled and that's what is really important. And we'll give them a new leader, someone we like a lot, who likes us back. And the people of Iraq WILL like him, we'll see to that. Because the regime has toppled, just like the statues (see the analogy, the metaphor, the blunt comparisons?), and that's what's important. The people? Ah, they're secondary. That will all fall into place.

We've got other fish to fry now. We'll show everyone we mean business. Let this be a lesson to YOU, Axis of Evil, and, well, anybody else we deem evil, or terrorist, or possessing wmd. WMD. Yeah, um, Syria, you're next! Oh wait, Iran. No, North Korea, oh, so many countries, we'll show them all! Did we find Iraq's WMD?? No, but we will! You can count on that. Right about the time we restore water and electricity and healthcare and jobs for everyone, and democracy to the PEOPLE of Iraq. I am SO proud of my country right now. We are the best, we kick ass, we can kill anyone we choose, because we're America. Yeah.

Kathy Najimy interjected a little antiwar sentiment on "Star Search" last night (she was the 'guest judge'), on account of Mr Ben Stein always has to add how proud he is of our troops. She says, yeah, let me just say, let's bring them home so no more of them have to die! Right on, Kathy! Later, she made a comment about how much she loved something, I forget about as much as she loves Michael Moore. Hah! Careful, Kathy, don't want to be blacklisted now, oh, wait, you're on fookin' "Star Search", you must've already lost your career. No matter then, go for it! Except you won't be invited back.

And my coworker is worried that she shouldn't be buying her 'Support Our Troops' t-shirt because it's all over now

What's in 'Corinthians' anyway? Is it good? I think I'll read the paper now, if I can stand it, if I can get past these photos, oy vey!
